A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City indicted Ruben Flores Enriquez, a 28-year-old Mexican national residing illegally in West Valley City, Utah, on March 12 for multiple drug offenses after agents seized large amounts of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine from his residence.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address the distribution of illegal narcotics in the District of Utah. Authorities say that the investigation began in February when the FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force started looking into Enriquez and others suspected of distributing significant quantities of drugs.
According to court documents, agents executed a search warrant at Enriquez’s home on February 23. During the search, they found approximately 1,466 grams of blue counterfeit pills that tested positive for fentanyl, nearly 9,811 grams of powder also testing positive for fentanyl, about 1,373 grams of methamphetamine, and roughly 679 grams of heroin. Enriquez was arrested following the seizure.
Enriquez faces charges including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin. His initial court appearance is scheduled for March 16 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City before a U.S. Magistrate Judge.
United States Attorney Melissa Holyoak announced the indictment. The FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force led the investigation with assistance from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Seth A. Nielsen will prosecute the case.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations involved in violent crime.
Officials remind that an indictment is only an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
