Kyle Eugene Duncan-Carle, a 41-year-old resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, has been sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release following his admission to bank fraud in 2023. Duncan-Carle was also ordered to pay restitution amounting to $3,490,634.75.
Court documents revealed that between January 2023 and September 2023, Duncan-Carle engaged in a scheme involving the theft of U.S. Treasury checks. He assumed the identities of individuals named on the checks, opened credit union accounts under these false identities, deposited the checks, and withdrew funds. The fraudulent activities involved at least eight stolen treasury checks totaling $7,975,621.22. Consequently, Duncan-Carle caused financial losses to the United States government and various financial institutions amounting to $3,490,634.75.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti from the District of Utah.
The investigation into this case was conducted collaboratively by several agencies: the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations (IRS-CI), the Internal Revenue Service Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), and the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office.
Prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Stephen P. Dent and Luisa Gough from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
